Introducing Maintenance Explained
MCP Management Training is delighted to announce the launch of our brand-new public course, Maintenance Explained.
This programme has been tried and tested over many years with clients across industries including food, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing. It is fully accredited by City and Guilds. Now, for the first time, it is available as a public course, open to anyone who wants to strengthen their understanding of maintenance principles, practices, tools and techniques.
The very first public course will take place at our Reading training facility on 10–11 February 2026 and bookings are now open.
Who is the course for?
Maintenance Explained has been designed with a wide audience in mind. It is particularly valuable for:
Technicians moving into maintenance-focused roles and seeking to broaden their knowledge. The course is also suitable for established technicians who wish to update and refresh their knowledge of maintenance best practice, tools and techniques
New starters in maintenance who require a solid grounding in the fundamental principles and practices of maintenance.
Operational and support staff within manufacturing who work closely with maintenance teams and would benefit from a clearer understanding of maintenance processes and objectives.
Managers and supervisors who may not have a maintenance background but are responsible for maintenance activities within their teams.
Why take this course?
Effective maintenance is the backbone of safe, reliable and efficient operations. Yet for many, maintenance can seem like a complex subject. Maintenance Explained simplifies the concepts, bringing clarity to the role of maintenance in achieving operational excellence.
Gain a clear overview of the key principles of maintenance and why they matter.
Develop insight into how maintenance contributes to safety, reliability and productivity.
Understand different types of maintenance strategies and when to apply them.
Get up to date with an overview of the latest maintenance best practice strategies, tools and techniques.
Be better equipped to communicate and collaborate with maintenance teams.
A trainer’s perspective
Roy Davis, one of our experienced managing consultants and trainers, has delivered this programme across the food, aerospace and pharmaceutical sectors. He explains:
“What makes this course so valuable is its practicality. We don’t just cover theory, we show how maintenance applies directly to real-world operations.
“The course also supports organisations that have embarked on a maintenance improvement journey and increases the knowledge and understanding of the maintenance team. It can be an important element in the ongoing culture change within the business.
“In highly regulated sectors such as food, aerospace and pharma, understanding the ‘why’ behind maintenance decisions is just as important as knowing the ‘how’. This course gives participants that clarity.”
The benefits
For individuals, the course offers an accessible entry point into the world of maintenance, or an opportunity to get up to date with the latest strategies, tools and techniques. It helps to build confidence and competence in their role while supporting their CPD.
For organisations, it ensures staff have a shared understanding of maintenance’s purpose and value and ongoing improvement programmes, leading to stronger teamwork, better decision-making and improved operational performance.
Take the next step
The first Maintenance Explained course will be held at our Reading training facility on 10–11 February 2026. Places are limited, so early registration is encouraged. We can also provide the course as an in-house training course tailored to suit the needs of your organisation.
